Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield recognised as a Supplier Engagement Leader on climate change by CDP
Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has been recognised by CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) for its work engaging with suppliers to tackle climate change, raising the level of climate ambition across its value chain. The Group places among the top 7% over 8,000 companies assessed for supplier engagement on climate change.
An organisation’s average upstream emissions are around 11.4 times greater than their direct operations(1) – which shows how vital supplier engagement is to achieve ambitious climate goals, such as science-based targets.
In this regard, the Group takes action through its Better Places 2030 agenda and plans to cut half of its carbon emissions across its value chain by 2030. With this CSR ambition, the Group became the first listed real estate company to address, in addition to its own direct emissions, the indirect emissions resulting from construction works, tenant energy consumption and transportation of visitors to access its assets.

CDP is an international non-profit that monitors and encourages companies and governments in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and protect forests. CDP assesses companies on the comprehensiveness of their disclosure, their awareness and management of environmental risks and their demonstration of best practices associated with environmental leadership, such as setting ambitious and meaningful targets.

Better Places 2030 was launched in 2016. Its main objective was to reduce the Group’s carbon emissions by -50% by 2030(2). In addition, Better Places 2030 now tackles new challenges such as responsible consumption and the circular economy. CSR is also instrumental in the Group’s HR strategy, through an increased commitment to diversity and inclusion.

- The design of sustainable buildings, targeting a reduction of 35% in the intensity of emissions from construction by 2030.
- Improving the eco-efficiency by collaborating with tenants and contractors for efficient resource use, which means reducing by 80% the intensity of emissions from operations, improving the Group’s assets’ energy efficiency by 30% by 2030. The Group had already multiplied by 5.7 the installed capacity of on-site renewable energy between 2015 and 2019, and achieved 100% of green electricity provision in Europe.
- Develop connectivity and sustainable mobility to achieve -40% in emissions intensity from transport by 2030.
